Barrington Public Schools K-12 Social Studies
Mission Statement
Our mission is to engage all students
in a challenging, sequential, and differentiated social studies curriculum,
driven by best practice instruction and assessment
through research, investigation, analysis, and application of history, geography, civics, diverse cultures and economics.
Philosophy
In Barrington Public Schools we believe the K-12 social studies program should:
· Encourage students to become confident and effective communicators, problem solvers, and life-long learners.
· Provide students with the opportunities and resources to develop the research and analytical skills they need to participate fully as informed, productive members of society.
· Establish clear expectations and hold all students to high standards adhering to the National History Standards, World Geography Standards, National Economics and the Rhode Island Civics and Government and Historical Perspective Standards.
· Differentiate instruction by varying content, process, and authentic products.
· Provide opportunities for students to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.
