Dear Barrington Public Schools Community,

It is with the deepest sorrow that I share with you the news that Caroline Friedman, a bright and beloved member of our Barrington High School community, passed away yesterday.

Caroline was remarkable. As a student in our Transition Academy, she was active in Barrington High School’s Unified sports and theater programs, playing on both the Unified volleyball and Unified basketball teams and acting, alongside her sister, in Unified theater. Caroline loved Starbucks, traveling, baking, and jewelry-making - but, most of all, she loved others. Gregarious and kind, she rarely let a moment pass without a smile and she touched the lives of many members of our community by encouraging them with her positivity and blessing them with her friendship.

Our Barrington community extends our sincerest condolences to the Friedman family during this unimaginably difficult time. We mourn with the Friedmans, Barrington High School and the BHS Transition Academy, and everyone who knew and loved Caroline Friedman.

I recognize that this news is devastating and difficult to process. We will have crisis teams and other resources available at Barrington High School for all staff and students who may need support, counseling, or someone to talk with. In times of tragedy, it is important to remember that we are not alone and that there is always an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. Please extend care, empathy, and kindness to one another. Additionally, here are some resources that may be helpful as you discuss this news with your children:

Let us always remember Caroline’s magnanimity and positivity and take inspiration from her lasting legacy of kindness and compassion. May we honor Caroline’s memory by making a positive difference in the Barrington community and leaving our corner of the world a little bit better than when we found it.

With immeasurable sympathy,

Rob Wargo
