Absence Policy Reminder: As we approach our Spring Recess and the spring season, we’d like to remind you of the BPS District Absence policy. Please see page 12 of the BMS Handbook for more detailed information. A short excerpt from the policy is below. “Absence from daily classwork hinders a child's academic progress at all grades. Studies have indicated that there is a positive correlation between good attendance and academic success. Classroom activities that take place at Barrington Middle School are a vital part of the teacher-student learning process. Thus, attendance at each assigned class period is imperative. We reward perfect attendance through recognition at our annual awards assembly. Extending a school vacation is discouraged as it interferes with the learning process. For this reason, we encourage you to try to schedule your child's appointments after school hours. Families are also urged to plan vacations that coincide with school vacations. This procedure will ensure that students will not miss work planned as part of their comprehensive educational experience as classroom interaction cannot be recaptured.”

BMS Spotlight on Learning Let’s Celebrate our Amazing Learning Community! (note: below you will find our standing/weekly BMS Spotlight on Learning)
This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on the BMS Robotics team, coaches and parents and would like to shine the spotlight on Connie Oswald, Mark Davis, Brian Fernandes and Abigail Halnon. It was due to their help that our movie night was so successful for our fundraising efforts. We wanted to thank them for their generosity of time and everything they do for BMS students. I would like to shine a spotlight on our new Student Assistance Counselor, Gilda Johnson. Mrs. Johnson has been a great addition to our school counseling team. She has done an amazing job connecting with students and being a presence in the school. Recently, Mrs. Johnson led the school in a lunchtime activity centered around furthering a school culture around a mission of being bullying and drug-free. Students were enthused and engaged! Mrs. Johnson, thank you for the enthusiasm and passion you have brought to BMS! Nominated by Elliott LeFaiver. Do you know of a BMS Faculty/Staff/Student member that is shining bright? If you do, please complete the form below and we can include the nomination in an upcoming newsletter.
