What is New at BMS! (note: the following information is new)
Family Engagement Day: May 10, 2023 On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm, BMS will be holding its Family Engagement Day. This will be an opportunity to sign-up for a time to come to school with your child and review your child’s academic portfolios and visit allied art classrooms. Early next week, we will be sending additional information and sign-ups. Note, this is not a day students will be attending school, but rather visiting school with a family member for a block of time.
Jackpot Raffle! Before the break, our BMS PTO sent raffle tickets home with all students (6th, 7th, 8th) to help support/fundraise for the 8th Grade Class Trip. The 8th-grade class trip to Washington, DC, has a fundraising goal of $10,000. To enter the raffle, families are encouraged to sell each raffle ticket for $20.00. Completed raffle tickets will be entered for a chance to win 3 cash prizes.
Thank you in advance for supporting this exciting experience for our 8th grade. We hope to continue this longstanding tradition for our current 6th and 7th graders!
“Day Without Hate” Peace Poster Party: The Barrington High School Chain Reaction Club is organizing our annual “A Day Without Hate” on Friday, April 28. This day will be an incredible opportunity for every member of our community to come together to say that we will not tolerate violence or hate, and we will reach out to friends and acquaintances and say, "We're all in this together." This year we once again want the entire district to be involved! On Thursday, April 27, the night before A Day Without Hate, all Barrington students, families and employees are invited to a Peace Poster Party in the BHS cafeteria from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. We will make posters to either hang up in the high school hallways, or bring back to their schools to hang the next morning. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to wear white, the color of peace, on Friday, April 28.
BMS Career Day: Volunteers Needed to Supervise Classrooms FRIDAY, JUNE 9th BMS Career Day for 7th & 8th grade students is right around the corner. 15 parent volunteers are needed to chaperone students in classrooms where career day speakers will be presenting. If you are interested in attending this walk, please sign up here. (first-come, first-served basis). Space will be limited to 15 individuals per visit. A confirmation email will be sent to individuals confirming their participation.
BMS Spring Tennis: BMS Spring Tennis is continuing for the next few weeks. All abilities and grade levels may sign up for any day (but please limit your student's sign up to one day per week). There will be six weeks of tennis total (this is the sign-up for week 3) and each week will focus on a different set of skills culminating in some games between classmates. There is no cost to participate! There will be a new sign-up sheet in the Connected Newsletter each week so keep an eye out for that. You must sign-up each week if you are interested. This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on our Science Olympiad Team. This past weekend they placed 3rd in our State competition. I would like to especially acknowledge Ms. Sushma Mottana (BMS Staff/Volunteer), Brown University Coach Aryan Narayan, and Brown University Coach Trevor Wilkins for your support and for providing this opportunity for our BMS students. Great work students! This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Dara Colacchio, our 8th Grade Volunteers, and our 8th Grade Family Volunteers for volunteering your time this past weekend at our Car Wash Fundraiser to help support our 8th Grade Field Trip to Washington, DC. This week, we would like to shine a Bright BMS Spotlight on Coach Nozaki and our BMS Unified Basketball Team! On Tuesday, our BMS Unified Basketball Team played a great game against Thompson Middle School to a packed gymnasium. In particular, we would like to shine a spotlight on our 8th-grade fans and teachers. Your enthusiasm and sportsmanship for both teams was amazing! This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on our BMS Best Buddies. This past weekend, our BPS/BMS team participated in our State’s Best Buddies walk at Providence College. Great work team! Do you know of a BMS Faculty/Staff/Student member that is shining bright? If you do, please complete the form below and we can include the nomination in an upcoming newsletter.
