What is New at BMS! (note: the following information is new)
Cluster Preference and Program Preference Forms: This is a gentle reminder that Cluster Experience and Program Preference Forms for our incoming 6th and 7th graders are due by June 1, 2023.
Over the next few weeks, our incoming 8th grade students will be selecting their allied art classes for 8th grade. Please see a link to the possible offerings below. We do encourage all of our incoming 8th grade families to complete the Hopes and Dreams form as this will give your child’s teachers helpful information.
Math Progression Information: Each year, BMS holds a Math Progression Information Night. Linked below you will find the slide deck reviewed as well as a video of the presentation.
8th Grade End of the Year Celebrations: I can’t believe we are just over a month away from the end of the 2022 - 2023 academic school year! With the end of the year quickly approaching, we wanted to share with you some of our year-end dates with our 8th Grade Families.
Please stay tuned for more information on these specific activities/events. Please consider signing up for donations and volunteer options using the link below. We thank you for your consideration and support, as we would not be able to pull off these events without the help of our amazing families! 8th Grade Chromebooks: Eighth graders will be handing in their chromebooks on Friday, June 16, 2023. If your student does not have a device at home to use for completing their summer homework, please email Dr. Anderson at andersona@barringtonschools.org before Friday, June 16 so we can arrange for your student to borrow a device for the summer.
Jackpot Raffle: There is still a chance to win big bucks! Our final day to purchase will be Friday, May 26, 2023! The BMS PTO sent raffle tickets home with all students in early April to help support/fundraise for the 8th Grade Class Trip. Raffle tickets are still available in the main office at BMS. The 8th-grade class trip to Washington, DC, has a fundraising goal of $10,000. To enter the raffle, families are encouraged to sell each raffle ticket for $20.00. Completed raffle tickets will be entered for a chance to win 3 cash prizes. 1st Prize: $1,000 2nd Prize: $500 3rd Prize: $250 Thank you in advance for supporting this exciting experience for our 8th grade. We hope to continue this longstanding tradition for our current 6th and 7th graders!
BMS Spring Tennis: Next week (5/29) is the last week of Spring Tennis. All abilities and grade levels may sign up for any day (but please limit your student's sign up to one day per week). Even though this is the last week of Spring Tennis, anyone can sign up so please sign up if you are interested. Due to the eighth-grade Washington D.C. trip, tennis will only be held on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Please reach out to Riley Spillane (spillaner@barringtonschools.org) with any questions.
Community Service Drive: The entire Barrington School District is coming together to raise awareness about period poverty by donating feminine products to homeless shelters nearby. You and your family can help by bringing in products such as pads and tampons to the bins located around the school. The Community Service Club will then collect and distribute them to women and girls in need around Rhode Island. The collection boxes will be placed by the nurse's office, the front office, and in the teacher’s lounge. We would appreciate your donations and support. - Community Service Club
Drop-Off and Pick-up Procedures: This is a reminder that Between the hours of 8:00 am - 9:00 am and 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm, the exit out of Barrington Middle School onto Middle Highway is a right hand turn only. This is for the safety of our students, parents, and teachers. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. After carefully studying the traffic pattern with the help of the Barrington Police Department, we have implemented the “Right Hand Turn Only” pattern. This allows cars to freely turn onto campus without the impediment of cars trying to take a left out of the parking lot. For the “Right Hand Turn Only” pattern to work as designed, cars should not use the Post Office parking lot as a turn around. There is also dropoff and pickup at the rear of the building by entering off of Lincoln Avenue. It is a circle so you loop around to exit. Please do not speed through here as students are crossing through the parking lot.
BMS Faculty/Student Basketball Game: We encourage you (Parents, Students, and Faculty Staff) to come and support our FacultyStudent Basketball Game scheduled for Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. There will be a small fee at the door, the opportunity to purchase snacks, and entry into our Jack Pot Raffel (parents). Proceeds from this event will go and help support our 8th Grade Field Trip/8th Grade Year End Events. Attention Basketball Players! As mentioned at lunchtime this past week, we are excited for our faculty/student basketball game scheduled at BMS from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. I want to thank everyone who signed up. If you are able to play on Monday, May 22, 2023, please complete the form below, regardless if you already signed up at lunchtime. BMS Spotlight on Learning Let’s Celebrate our Amazing Learning Community! (note: below you will find our standing/weekly BMS Spotlight on Learning)
This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Becky Trahan. During RICAS and NGSA there are going to be issues that come up with technology. I cannot understate how lucky BMS is to have Becky Trahan around when things go awry. No one is quicker and better at handling technology-related issues than Becky. Thank you, Becky Trahan, for everything you do to help BMS run smoothly. Nominated by Elliott LeFaiver This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Krystal Leary, Stephanie Nary and Jaime Poirier. It’s impossible to imagine the work I do with students and families without the support and collaboration of our school counselors. The depth of knowledge each counselor has for their students and how they work with teachers and administration to share that information helps the entire school community best support and educate the students. With so much emphasis placed on the academic and social-emotional wellbeing of our students, BMS is extremely fortunate to have such a strong school counseling team. Thank you, Krystal, Stephanie and Jaime for everything you do to help support our students. Nominated by Elliott LeFaiver & Andy Anderson Do you know of a BMS Faculty/Staff/Student member that is shining bright? If you do, please complete the form below and we can include the nomination in an upcoming newsletter.
