To avoid confusion, please ensure only one photo is uploaded per student. Deadline is Thursday, December 1, 2022.

What is New at BMS!

(note: the following information is new)

M.A.D. Squad and Kindness Grams!

We would like to congratulate our BMS M.A.D. Squad and our entire BMS Learning Community for making a difference. Not only did we spread kindness through Kindness Grams throughout our learning community during the month of October, we also raised $400.00 for a local organization supporting individuals with cancer. Great work M.A.D Squad and all who participated by purchasing a Kindness Gram. Looking forward to November’s Kindness Grams!

If you would like to purchase and send a Kindness Gram during the month of November, please use this link!

Halloween Chorus Concert!

Congratulations to Mrs. Armstrong and our BMS Chorus for putting on a spirited Halloween Concert on Monday, October 31, 2022, to their peers during the school day. This event was recorded and can be accessed below by using our BMS TV link.

Parent Learning Walk:

We have a few more spots in the Parent Learning Walk on Monday, November 14.  Dr. Anderson will be hosting several “Family Learning Walks” throughout the year to provide an opportunity for families to see Project Based Learning in action and to get a glimpse of the life of a BMS student.  Register for the November 14 walk or the December 15 Parent Learning Walk on this form.  We will need to limit it to 20 parents, and it will be a first come, first served basis. Please note, this visit is not to your child’s classroom, but rather to see teaching and learning happening throughout the school.

7th Grade Vision Screening:

Vision screening is an important component of pediatric preventive health care and is required as per the RI Rules and Regulations for School Health Programs. Vision screening is performed annually in grades K-5, grade 7 and grade 9. BMS will have this screening, Friday, November 18, 2022. If you have any questions, please reach out to our school nurse, Maddy Crowell, at crowellm@barringtonschools.org.

COVID-19 protocols will be followed to ensure safety of all students. If your child wears eyeglasses, please make sure they have them at school for the screening as well as regular use.

PTO Corner:

Welcome to the new school year from the BMS PTO! We are excited for the new year and a return to many of the events and activities that have been missed over the past couple of years. Here are a few PTO updates to start off the year:

  • Join the PTO: Become a member of the BMS PTO for $20 through our BMS online store. Proceeds go directly to the school and PTO programs and membership is required to vote at PTO meetings.

  • Volunteers needed: We are in great need of volunteers for the board (President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary) and committees (Book Fair, Hospitality, Fundraising, One Amazing Night, Variety Show, 8th Grade Celebration). Please email barringtonmiddlepto@gmail.com if interested or with any questions with no pressure to commit.

BMS Spotlight on Learning

Let’s Celebrate our Amazing Learning Community!

(note: below you will find our standing/weekly BMS Spotlight on Learning)

BMS Spotlight on Learning:

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Purple Cluster! This week purple cluster donated over 300 items to the community service food drive. We couldn’t have done this without the support of our students and their families. I am amazed by everyone’s participation and generosity and I am honored to be a part of such a great community! (Nominated by Ms. Spillane)

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Dr. Fernandes. Dr. Fernandes is always so helpful to me and my students. He is willing to go above and beyond to help his colleagues in any way he can. Every time I have asked him for a favor he has not hesitated in the least to offer up his time and expertise. He has repeatedly gone out of his way to help my students excel and is an invaluable resource in the building! (Nominated by a BMS Teacher)

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Bannon. Mrs. Bannon is an awesome teacher. Her class is really fun, and we are learning a lot in her class. She has made ELA fun for me, and I love her after-school creative writing club. You're making a huge impact on my writing. Thank you! (Nominated by BMS Student Afraz Rahman)

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Ms. Takacs. Mrs. Takacs always goes above and beyond to support her students in Spanish. She actively communicates with parents and students when she notices a student needs extra help. Mrs. T sends in-depth emails to students providing explicit feedback on their work, how to improve and studying tips. She recognizes that her students learn in a variety of modalities and provides them with the flexibility to learn and present in a way that meets their needs. (Nominated by a BMS Teacher)

Do you know of a BMS Faculty/Staff/Student member that is shining bright? If you do, please complete the form below and we can include the nomination in an upcoming newsletter.
