Primrose Pandas are Respectful, Responsible and Safe

Dear Primrose Families,

This week we continued to celebrate our students’ learning in a variety of ways. Thanks to the many teachers and parents who have shared photos with me of our events and special moments this week-and to all of you for your patience to scan and load them into this week’s newsletter. We hosted whole school events, recognized Flay Day, hosted portfolio shares with parents and other learning celebrations.

The high school Jazz Band went on tour this week to the elementary schools and performed fantastic concerts for our students. Former Primrose students were easily recognized by their teachers and staff members. They are an extremely talented group and if you have an opportunity to see them perform during the school year, don’t hesitate to go! Our students loved it and recognized many of the songs.

Yesterday was a treat to celebrate this first annual Primrose Performs concert. So wonderful to see our students shine-not just during the performance, but as an audience as well. Below are some pictures of this wonderful new tradition here. Special thanks to Mr Vadnais and his team of helpers for arranging this.

Kindergarten students have been learning about Trees in their current unit and demonstrated that even at a young age-you can make a difference. They shared their learning with the Tree Commission and advocated on behalf of our community. Thanks to our teachers and coaches for helping to make this project come to fruition for our students. Photos below in case you missed their open house.

Field Day was another highlight this week for the students, staff and volunteers who all came out to enjoy a variety of games and activities. Thank you to Mr Gesmondi and Mrs Lewis for their partnership in planning this fun day for all of our students. Photos included below of just some of the play!

Building tours were also held this week at the three lower elementary schools to allow families and community members to view the buildings and our use of space and have conversations about the process for making improvements for our schools. I hope that you will stay informed and participate in the upcoming meetings and discussions to get details directly from the committee and the educators who work with your children. There is a meeting this coming week on Tuesday. Please see details and links below. You may find it helpful to visit the district website to remain current and informed of the process as well.

As you know there is no school on Monday as we honor Juneteenth. This day marks when the last enslaved people in the US learned they were free in 1865. Juneteenth ended one of the darkest chapters of our history and became a federal holiday in 2021.

Educationally yours,

Coleen Smith

To all the Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles and men who work hard, play hard and care for us-Happy Father’s Day!

Attention Incoming Kindergarten Families:

I wanted to be sure that any of our current preschool students who will be attending Kindergarten with us in the fall received the details for our Kindergarten screening. Please see the details below and use the two links included to schedule your appointment and to complete the short questionnaire. This same information will be sent out to new families to our school today as well.

Welcome to Kindergarten!  We are excited to have your child join us in the upcoming school year, and it will be here before you know it.  In August, you will receive information from us about your child’s classroom placement and Kindergarten Orientation. We need your help to ensure that our placement meets the needs of your child.

We will do our Kindergarten screening on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, July 25 and Wednesday, July 26

  • Monday, August  7 and Tuesday, August 8

  • Thursday, August 10 and Friday, August 11

This screening information will help us to create balanced Kindergarten classes and gather information on students in literacy, numeracy, articulation, and free play. The screening accomplishes two goals:

  1. To have better information on students entering Kindergarten

  2. To allow teachers to work on classroom routines and make connections during the first few weeks of school instead of assessments.

Please click on the links below to access two documents.  The first link is a short questionnaire about your child’s learning that would be helpful to get to know your child a bit. The second link is the SignupGenius to pick a sign-up time for the screening. Please know that screening is required. If you cannot attend a session, please email me directly so that we can establish an alternative plan.
