🐛🍄🌼STUDENTS HELP LAND TRUST CREATE TEACHING GARDEN AT BMS:
BPS student members of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust's Student Stewardship Team recently planted 275 native pollinator plants to create a new teaching garden at Barrington Middle School.
The pollinator garden will be a place where students can learn about local habitats and the importance of pollinators. Connor, a senior at Barrington High School, adopted the garden as his senior project and spent many hours digging out invasive species and preparing the garden for planting. A generous donation from Stormwater Innovation Center and Prickly Ed's Cactus Patch Native Plant Emporium helped provided the plants for this garden.

🇺🇸🗳🤍BHS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ELECTION DAY:
Barrington High School students Vlad and Abigail helped with exit polling at Barrington Middle School today as part of an assignment for their Advanced Placement government class.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressman Gabe Amo visited BMS and other polling locations across the state to #GetOutTheVote and stopped to talk with our students!

Following an impressive 16-0 regular season, our Barrington High School girls tennis team placed second in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Girls Tennis State Championship on Saturday.

🕯💀🌹BMS CELEBRATES DIA DE LOS MUERTOS:
Today is Día de los Muertos! Barrington Middle School celebrated the Day of the Dead with an engaging lesson from our world languages teachers. Students also sampled Mexican hot chocolate and pan de muerto generously provided by BMS families.

👻🎃🧪BHS STUDENTS EXPLORE FORENSIC SCIENCE:
In the spirit of Halloween, our Barrington High School students got spooky in science class!
During a forensic science lesson, they learned about Locard's Exchange Principle, which is the basis for modern forensic science based on the concept that every contact leaves a trace, and had the opportunity to test the principle out for themselves in a classroom whodunit. 🔎
🌳🌕🚀MOON TREE PLANTED AT BMS:
This week, Dr. Anderson, Ms. St.Angelo, and a group of students planted an Artemis I Moon Tree at Barrington Middle School! The tree was grown from a seed that orbited the moon during the Artemis I mission in 2022.
Ms. St. Angelo, a fifth grade math and science teacher at Hampden Meadows School, participated in a pilot cohort to develop an Integrated STEM certification with the Rhode Island Department of Education and Rhode Island College and her students took part in a year-long, interdisciplinary project that immersed them in the world of engineering through NASA’s Sparking Participation and Real-world eXperiences (SPARX) program. As a part of this work, she applied and was selected for Barrington to receive an Artemis I Moon Tree from NASA! 🛰🌱

🧑💼💡📰FBLA STUDENTS ATTEND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE:
Members of the Barrington High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club recently attended the Rhode Island FBLA State Leadership Conference!
Our future business leaders engaged in networking events, attended workshops, and heard from a number of guest speakers at the conference. Way to go, FBLA! 🟡🔵
🚒🚛🚓HMS STUDENTS LEARN FROM FIRST RESPONDERS:
Hampden Meadows Elementary School students celebrated National First Responders Day with a visit from special guests: Officer Joel, K9 Levi, and members of the Barrington Police and Fire Departments, the Barrington Department of Public Works, the Rhode Island State Police, and the Newport Harbor Master! 🚔⚓️
During the "Touch a Truck" event, students learned about the role and duties of our first responders and had the opportunity to go inside some first responder vehicles. They even got to meet the youngest member of the BPD, K9 Levi, who is the department's first ever comfort and community engagement dog! 🐕🦺
⚖️📜🇺🇸BHS WELCOMES GUEST SPEAKERS FOR CONSTITUTION DAY:
Today is Constitution Day in Rhode Island! Some Barrington High School students spent the morning learning about First Amendment law issues relevant to students thanks to guest speakers, Secretary of State Gregg Amore, Judge Susan Pepin Fay, and attorney Zachary Lyons.
It was an informative morning in the BHS library!
🦅⭐️🎫BHS EAGLES APPROACH END OF FALL ATHLETICS SEASON:
The fall athletics season is winding down and our Barrington High School student athletes are busy!
This weekend, the JV girls volleyball team won the JV Division II State Championship, the cheer team placed second in Division II at the Game Day Cheerleading Championship, and the girls and boys cross country teams placed fourth and second, respectively, in their Class Championship meets. 🥳
BHS hosts the girls tennis state semifinals tomorrow as well as the girls and boys soccer playoffs on Victory Field. The field hockey team will play in a semifinals game tomorrow night in Cranston and the varsity girls volleyball team takes on Burrillville in a quarterfinals match in the Murgo Gymnasium on Wednesday night!

Nayatt School celebrated the retirement of longtime second grade teacher, Ms. Fran Taft, with a special visit from the RI Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals!
Students learned how to care for and respect the animals in their lives and even got to meet two of RISPCA's animal ambassadors, Beans and Beatrice!

Hampden Meadows Elementary School students recently celebrated International Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day which promotes physical activity, teaches students safe and healthy ways to get to school, and helps to reduce traffic congestion and pollution in neighborhood communities.

🍂🤝🌞BARRINGTON DAY OF CARING 2024:
Barrington High School students recently participated in the Town of Barrington, RI's annual Barrington Day of Caring on Monday, October 14!
Among these BPS volunteers were 30 athletes from the boys cross country team who volunteered at Barrington Farm School. They helped harvest crops, remove plants, pull weeds, and spread much to help the Farm School prepare for the upcoming winter.

🧡🌈🤍BPS CELEBRATES UNITY DAY 2024:
October 16 is Unity Day, a signature event of PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center (NBPC)'s National Bullying Prevention Month. Each of our schools celebrated Unity Day today thanks to the Barrington High School Chain Reaction Club, faculty advisors, and school counselors!
Students and staff wore orange to send a visible message that Barrington Public Schools and our learning communities are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Morning arrival for Primrose Hill Elementary School, Nayatt School, Sowams School, Hampden Meadows Elementary School, and Barrington Middle School students included many high fives and warm welcomes into school.

Nayatt School celebrated National Fire Prevention Week with special visitors from the Barrington Fire Department!
Students learned about the importance of having working smoke alarms and how to stay safe in case of a fire. They also had an opportunity to see emergency vehicles up close!

💯📘📚BHS NAMED TO AP HONOR ROLL:
Barrington High School has been named to the Advanced Placement Program (AP) School Honor Roll, earning Gold distinction for students' college readiness and preparation.
Seventy percent of BHS seniors in the Class of 2024 took at least one AP exam during high school. Overall, 64% of 2024 seniors scored a three or higher on at least one AP exam and 10% of the seniors took five or more AP exams, including at least one exam in the 9th or 10th grade!
This recognition demonstrates the immense amount of hard work and effort our educators and students put into teaching and learning. Way to go, BHS!

Today, October 6, is #NationalCoachesDay which honors coaches who dedicate their time and energy to leading teams in every sport!
